About Antonio.............
Born in San Lucido, Italy, I came to the states when I was 7 years old with my parents and four siblings. Growing up in
Brooklyn, New York my whole life, there was always a place where you could get a good loaf of Italian Bread, some good tasting Mortadella, or just some good old Sopressata and Scamorzza. The smells of the bakery down the street where you could get some great tasting homemade Cannoli and Sfogliatelle or some kind of pastry... were just unbelievable. I remember when my mother would send me to the local market on 18th Avenue to get Imported Parmigiano, and if I came home with anything other than imported, she would have a fit. She would tell me do not let them give you anything but imported. I stayed in Brooklyn up until the time I married. Then, my wife Josephine and I moved to the Bronx. Even then, we were never too far from an Italian market or deli or pastry shop…. We moved to Florida in 2000, and found it very hard to settle…..there were no good Italian Markets with great stuff that we could find up north. The bread was gummy and, the only deli meats that we could get was at Publix…and over priced for that!! The holidays were not even the same. There was no Chestnuts, Panatone, Pandoro, or anything in the Italian tradition that we were used to. That is when I decided to do something about it. In 2006, I decided to open my own Italian market and deli. I knew the products and I knew something about the food business. I grew up in the food business and my whole family was in the food industry. It was only a matter of time that I would follow in those footsteps.
My wife and I both work at the deli, along with my mother-in-law and two helpers. It has been an amazing experience owning my own Market and Deli, and we have met many wonderful people throughout the years. We cater to most of the Italian / American population in Sarasota, Venice, & Bradenton, since we are the only true Authentic Italians left that own an Italian deli in Sarasota.

Testimonials & News Articles about Piccolo
Piccolo Italian Market and Deli opens new digs, Brian Hughes SRQ Magazine.........
If you ever need to find a great, affordable lunch spot, just follow the nearest police car at around noon (at a polite distance, of course) and you're sure to end up some place tasty. We got to the new location of Piccolo Italian Market and Deli through less clandestine means (we were in the neighborhood), but were pleased to note that several cops were taking their lunch inside. Piccolo is our go-to place for Italian subs that bleed through their wax paper, edible torpedoes over a foot long that don't scrimp on meats. Fresh sliced Italian deli meat like capicollo and sopresata give the sandwiches intense flavor, and choice cheese puts the screws to processed alternatives. But it was the cash register impulse buy that really captured our attention. Just in time for the holidays, Piccolo is also now selling whole raw chestnuts, just waiting to be roasted over an open fire some cold night soon.
I have been coming here to Sarasota for about ten years now and every place that I have had a sandwich that was either disgusting with no flavor and saturated with vegetable oil. Man these guys should have a line out the door with the quality of their sandwiches, man what is wrong with the people here in Sarasota that go to some of the places because their bread is soft "I say mushy". People wake up the soft bread is full of chemicals to maintain shelf life, real Italian bread has no shelf life....... 8/12/2009
This is the only place that I have found in Sarasota that serves the best and real Italian bread with their subs not like most of the other place that use bread that was either frozen or par baked and loaded with chemicals to maintain its freshness...These guys are the real deal with what they serve not to mention that they are real true Italians, these guys make a killer sub called the "TONY SOPRANO" it comes with Prosciutto, Hot Sopressata, Fresh Mozzarella, Tomato, Lettuce, and to top it Hot Giardiniera. These guys should be nominated for Man vs. Food. 10/9/2009

REAL Italian food and Italian atmosphere...??
This is REAL Italian food. Yes, there is a difference between Olive Garden and REAL Italian food. The establishment is cozy, comfortable, and completely decorated in Italian "attire" (even the music is in Italian). The owners are right from Italy which makes the experience even richer. The prices are LOW....crazy low! I was totally blown away to see the prices. The food is just....to die for....to kill for; I am talking about some serious real Italian meats, cheeses, pastas, breads, and the list goes on and on. You will NEVER vist Olive Garden, Subway, etc. again. These people are incredible. They will for sure get my business again.!
An Almost Italian Night Before Christmas!!
